Last Sunday

Everyone was busy with other things on Sunday, so I went out by myself. I started off in Cranbrook and headed south on Gold Creek rd. At the junction just north of Baker Mt I headed east towards HaHa Creek road and Mayook.
Both roads where in pretty good shape so I made good time. Once I got onto HaHa creek road, I headed south towards Wardner. There are lots of old dilapidated buildings on this road. Baker Mt is in the back ground.
At the end of this road you take a right towards Wardner and once you get to the end of the road, you take another right and that gets you on your way south towards Caven Creek road. At this point there is a nice description of the next 20 kilometers, but this is a 4X4 road. You could get down it with a higher clearance car, but there are some pretty good pot holes, one spot where the water was about half a foot, and another where it took a bit of work with the BMW bike to work my way through.
The road on the right heads to Wardner and it is about 20 kilometers. Not a good place to have a problem with your vehicle as I was the only one on it, and it was the middle of a Sunday. For quite a way up on the right there are very private camping spots that are on the lake. If the water is low, it is still quite a bit away from the water. I did not go down to the camping spots. The road on the left heads towards Sunrise Pass. Once you get up there, you can head down the switchbacks to Moyie lake, or you can go straight and end up at Gilnokie Park.
I chose to go towards Kocanusa lake as I had picked up lunch at the Gold Creek store before I got to the dirt road. The water is way down and often where I parked the bike it is covered with water. It was a very private place to have lunch and a great view. Once I was done eating and relaxing I drover over to the Jaffrey Pub and Restaurant for a lemonade and then headed home. It was a great day.
